We realized that there is much more than what our eyes can see, like the invisible carbon dioxide gas. Matter exists in solid, liquid, and gas form, and it can move from one state to another if conditions change. Density describes how much matter fits in a space, and it mattered a lot because the CO₂ was heavier than air, so it dropped down and pushed away the oxygen, causing the candle to go out during the experiment.
