Thanks to these experiments, we realized that light doesn't travel the same way everywhere; we saw how it bent and changed direction when passing from water to air. We learned what refraction is, which is a super basic concept of light and really easy to grasp with practice. We had no idea how important these properties of light were for today's technology, like fiber optics for flying-fast internet. And the best part is that, besides learning a bunch of new stuff, we had fun!"
An opaque object does not allow light to pass through. A translucent object allows light to pass through. In an object that reflects light, when light hits it, it changes direction and is reflected elsewhere. Light tells us the shape of the object, whether it is translucent, opaque, or reflective.
.We have discovered that the distance IS key : If our object is too close to the lens, it won't flip. And if the object IS too far we only would see a blurry image. The tracing paper IS essential to see the image inverted because It is translucent Finally we see the images the right way thanks to the brain , the brain interprets the IMAGES we see through our eyes. The camera obscura works similar to the eye .
This lab showed us that science is very important. Without technology, our world would be dark and difficult. We learned that a simple water bottle can become a lamp using refraction. This is a great solution for poor countries because it is cheap and easy to make. Science helps us solve big problems with simple ideas. What would our world be like without science and technology? Science is like a powerful engine that helps us move forward. Without science, many things we have today wouldn't even exist. Investing in science is very important for a country to grow and become better.
Have you enjoyed the mission? We had a great time overall. We learned many things that will probably be useful for us in the future. What have you learned? We learned a lot of things, like how to make light without electricity, how to project a shape using a box and a flashlight, and that the eye works like a camera obscura. What was the best bit of this experience? The best part was doing Lab 4 (Moser Lamp). It was really fun to decorate it! Would you do it again? We would love to repeat this experience next year.
